Where can I take my yard waste?
State law in Minnesota prohibits the disposal of yard waste with your garbage. If you have the ability to take your yard waste to a compost site, there a number of privately-run sites in the area. All yard waste disposal is subject to fees; call ahead for pricing. Residents can also schedule a yard waste pick-up, or recurring pick-ups, with their garbage service provider for an added fee.

Where do I take unwanted appliances?
Minnesota law prohibits appliances from being placed with household garbage because they have components that are harmful to human health and the environment. Major appliances no longer in usable condition must be recycled.

Where are the transfer stations and landfills in my area?
There are several landfills and transfer stations in Dakota County that are open to the public. These facilities accept non-hazardous wastes such as garbage, bulky items, remodeling waste and other solid waste. They do not accept hazardous waste, tires and yard waste. Call for hours, specifics on materials accepted and associated fees.

Although specifics vary by hauler, generally you can recycle all of the following items in your curbside recycling: plastic bottles, jugs, and containers, glass food and beverage jars of any color, aluminum and steel cans, cartons, all paper (mail, magazines, newspapers, etc.) and cardboard.
