What are weight restriction load limits and when are they?: The two primary causes for premature deterioration of asphalt streets are weather and traffic. As the frost is leaving the ground during the spring thaw, the gravel under the street has high moisture content, which affects the load carrying capacity of the asphalt pavement. To prolong the service life of the streets and highways, axle weight restrictions are imposed. Exceptions to seasonal load limits are granted to emergency vehicles and school buses. All other vehicles must follow the posted weight limits. Dates of load limit restrictions vary from year to year. 1. When will my street be plowed?: Streets are plowed and de-iced in the following priority: 1. Main Thoroughfares 2. Commercial and Industrial 3. Collectors and steep grades 4. Residential Our goal is to keep major streets open at all times. Please help us do our job by not shoveling or snow-blowing snow back into the street. Not only is this dangerous, but also it is illegal and can result in a fine.

2. Will the City fix plow damage to my mailbox?: The city will repair/replace mailboxes if it physical damage was cause by the snow plow. Most mailbox damage is from lack of maintenance, such as a rotting post. Please check your mailbox annually for structural integrity.

3. Will the City fix plow damage to by boulevard?: The city will repair/replace damage to boulevards if the physical damage was caused by the snow plow. For any boulevard damage, please contact Public Works at 952-895-4550 or place a service request on our city website.

5. Can I park my car on the street overnight?: No. On street parking is not allowed on public streets in Burnsville from 2 - 6 a.m. This policy is in effect for the entire year.

11. How often are streets swept?: The city sweeps all public roads completely two times per year. Once in the spring and once in the fall. We will also sweep throughout the year for other reasons such as in conjunction with seal coating and crack sealing.

12. How is it decided which streets are repaired?: All paved streets are evaluated yearly. After the evaluation is completed, the information is analyzed. The condition of the street, past maintenance history, age of the street, the city’s five year Capital Improvement plan and budget all play a major role in deciding which streets will be fixed/repaired or will have some type of preventative maintenance (seal coat, overlay, etc.) performed on them.
