Home Energy Squad Visits
Save energy and save money on your utility bills by taking a close look at energy-saving opportunities within your home. The first step is a free virtual visit with the Home Energy Squad (HES). During a virtual visit, an energy consultant will guide customers on a walk-through assessment of their homes via video chat. They will receive energy-saving tips to start saving energy right away and recommendations for next steps.
If the virtual visit team thinks your home could benefit from an in-home visit they will recommend one of two types, an Energy Saver Visit (typically for newer homes) or an Energy Planner Visit. Both visits include installation of energy saving materials such as LED lightbulbs, door and attic hatch weather stripping, programmable thermostat and high efficiency water fixtures.
If your home has an opportunity for significant savings through larger home improvement projects such as additional insulation, attic air sealing, or replacing old heating equipment, the energy advisors make these larger steps easy by connecting you with a vetted list of qualified contractors, specialized financing and utility rebates.

To schedule a Home Energy Squad visit, ask questions or learn more visit the Home Energy Squad website or call 651-328-6220. The City of Burnsville is paying half the cost for a Home Energy Squad visit for the first 200 residents that schedule a visit.
Home Energy Squad is provided by CenterPoint Energy and Xcel Energy and delivered by the Center for Energy and Environment (CEE), a Minnesota nonprofit.

Ready to reduce your trash with a new kind of food waste disposal? We have an organics drop-off site right here in Burnsville at Civic Center Park, 260 Civic Center Parkway. Open daily from 5 a.m. - 10 p.m.
Getting started is easy and free! Fill out this quick form from Dakota County and you'll receive a welcome kit with a container label, compostable bags to get you started and details on how to drop off your organics.
Resident Rain Garden Grant Program
The Neighborhood Water Resources Enhancement Grant (NWREG) awards grants of up to $1,000 for projects on private property that enhance water quality. Grant recipients receive a reimbursement after completing their project. Qualifying projects include but are not limited to shoreline restorations, raingardens, and native plantings.
Grant applications are accepted in early spring of each year. Learn more about resident grants.
Landscaping for Clean Water Workshops
Burnsville is pleased to be a part of the Landscaping for Clean Water program, which holds workshops for residents to learn about raingardens, shoreline restorations and native gardens. These free workshops teach you how to design, install and maintain a project in your own yard.
