Heart of the City
Opened in the fall of 2012. The pharmacy has 13,000 square feet of pharmacy operations and retail. A minute clinic is also on site. Adjacent to the store is a small outlot slated to be 5,00 square feet of retail/office space.
Dakota County CDA
Dakota County Community Development Agency (CDA) developed 34 “rowhouse style” family town homes on the east side of Nicollet Avenue in the Heart of the City. These one, two and three bedroom town homes designed by LHB Madsen architects feature a brick and stucco exterior finish along with decorative stone caps in window areas. The 34 units are contained in eight buildings, seven of those buildings are two or three stories. The remaining structure is a one-story handicapped accessible building. Grande Market Plâce
Grande Market Plâce is a mixed-use development consisting of 113 studio through 2-bedroom apartments and 30,000 square feet of commercial space including a culinary school. Fifty of the apartment units are affordable to individuals with incomes at or below 60% of the area median income. Additionally, 23 of the 50 affordable units will provide housing to current or recent recipients of MFIP, Minnesota’s welfare program, to assist them in achieving economic independence. The Minnesota Housing Finance Agency provided $3,150,000 in funding for the project through two Agency programs designed to serve MFIP recipients, and to encourage development of workforce housing with financial contributions from local businesses or employers. The development is receiving tax credits, as well as funding from the Dakota County Community Development Agency, the Family Housing Fund and the City of Burnsville.
Grande Market Square
Grand Market Square is a three story mixed-used building with retail on the first floor and office space on the second and third floors. Retail tenants include Jensen's Restaurant and Ficus and Figs retail. Office tenants include At Home Title and Norsvin.
Mediterranean Cruise Café
Opened in the summer of 2009, the Mediterranean Cruise Café is the newest restaurant to open in the Heart of the City. The new freestanding restaurant is 7700 square feet with a patio facing both Nicollet Ave and the Nicollet Commons Park. Parking will be convenient at either the 24 stalls next to the building or one of the 350 stalls in the deck directly east of the building.
Mediterranean Cruise Café was established in 1979 by three brothers from Jerusalem. The menu features original delicacies from Italy, Greece, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, and Palestine. They have been awarded the best Mediterranean restaurant by City search in 2004 and 2006/2007.
The establishment is noted for its unique belly dancing entertainment on Thursday through Sunday. For more information check out
Nicollet Commons Park
Nicollet Commons Park is one of the first “town square” style parks to be developed in the metro area suburbs and serves as the focal point in the Heart of the City. The park features spaces for patrons to sit and read a book or have lunch along with an open green area and 250 seat performance amphitheater for concerts and

The property formerly occupied by the Cancun restaurant and K-Mart store is now the largest development project to date in the Heart of the City. Tenants in Nicollet Plaza include a Cub Foods and Share Point Bank both with adjoining retail. Mixed-use buildings with first floor retail outline the development along Nicollet Avenue and Travelers Trail. Seventy condominiums have been constructed with first floor retail and eleven town homes and nine single-family homes have been developed. ParkCrest on Nicollet
ParkCrest on Nicollet is a four-story, 91-unit condominium development with 8,500 square feet of first floor retail. Features include a U-shaped building with an inner plaza and a grand entrance on Nicollet Avenue. On-street parking is available on First Avenue and 125th Street, with underground parking available for residents. The retail businesses Jo Jo's Rise and Wine and the Bridal Accents Couture are located the entire length of Nicollet Avenue and approximately two-thirds of the frontage on 125th Street. Visit

Performing Arts Center
The City of Burnsville is operating a multi-functional performing arts center, the Ames Center, located immediately west of Nicollet Commons Park, 126th street and Pillsbury Avenue, in the Heart of the City. View the Ames Center web page at
Red Lion Liquor
The first completed project in the Heart of the city was Red Lion Liquor, a Burnsville business for over 30 years. Owner Mike Moore has invested over $80,000 to completely redesign and construct the building to be fully compliant with the Heart of the City design standards. Red Lion Liquor is located at the corner of W. Travelers Trail and Nicollet Avenue.
The first condo project in the Heart of the City area, Uptown Landing consists of 37 units of owner-occupied condos at the corner of Burnsville Parkway and 125th Street.
Villas in the Heart of Burnsville
The Villas project is a 14 unit owner-occupied rowhouse style town homes located south of Travelers Trail and east of Nicollet Avenue.
