Watershed Management Organizations
Burnsville is unique in that it contains portions of three different Watershed Management Organizations, the Black Dog Watershed Management Organization, the Vermillion River Joint Powers Organization, and the Lower Minnesota River Watershed District. The Watershed Management Organization map shows the extent of the three Water Management Organizations within Burnsville.

Black Dog Watershed Management Organization
The City of Burnsville participates with the cities of Apple Valley, Lakeville, Eagan and Savage on the Black Dog Water Management Organization (BDWMO).

The organization is active with surface water management issues in the areas of these cities covered by the BDWMO. The BDWMO covers 17,730 acres or 27.7 sq. miles and 72% of the watershed lies within the City of Burnsville. Regular Board Meetings
Regular Board meetings are held at 5 p.m. on the third Wednesday of the month at Burnsville Maintenance Facility, 13713 Frontier Court in Burnsville.

Vermillion River Joint Powers Organization
The Vermillion River Watershed located in Scott and Dakota Counties in Minnesota is administered through a Joint Powers Agreement. The VRWJPO is governed by a three-member Joint Powers Board (JPB) composed of two Dakota County Commissioners and one Scott County Commissioner.

The Vermillion River watershed is the largest in the Twin Cities metropolitan area although less than 2 sq. miles lie within the City of Burnsville. The VRWJPO is engaged in activities such as water quality monitoring and volunteer programs. Regular Board Meetings
The Watershed Joint Powers Board meets the fourth Thursday of each month at 1 p.m., Room 334, Dakota County Western Service Center, Apple Valley, Minnesota.

Lower Minnesota Watershed District
The Lower Minnesota River Watershed District (LMRWD) encompasses the Minnesota River Valley from Carver, Minnesota to its confluence with the Mississippi River. Burnsville is one of the fifteen communities that the District includes.

The LRMWD works with local units of government, private citizens, and local organizations to provide strategic resource evaluation and management. Please follow the link on the right for more information about the Lower Minnesota Watershed District.

Regular Board Meetings
Regular meetings of the LMRWD Board of Directors are held at Chaska City Hall on the third Wednesday of each month, from 7 p.m. to about 9 p.m.
