2004 Officer of the Year
Steve Adrian
Burnsville’s Officer of the Year is a police investigator who is dedicated to solving some of the most difficult and somewhat unthinkable crimes such as Crimes Against Children and Predatory Sex Offender-related issues. Officer Steve Adrian, an 18-year veteran of the Burnsville Police Department, is the Burnsville Police Officer of the Year for 2004.

Comments by Police Chief Bob Hawkins
“Officer Adrian’s unrelenting devotion to law enforcement and the community he serves are well in keeping with the highest standards and core values of this department,” commented Burnsville Police Chief Bob Hawkins. “His ability to sensitively, respectfully and compassionately work with victims of these types of crimes is matched only by his tenacious efforts to hold the perpetrators accountable for their actions,” added Hawkins.

Positions Served
Since joining the Burnsville Police Department in 1987, Adrian has served in the capacity of Patrol Officer, Domestic Abuse Response Team member, and is currently assigned to the position of Investigator specializing in two major areas – Crimes Against Children and Predatory Sex Offender-related issues. Officer Adrian has worked some of the agency’s more complex and difficult cases including homicides, countless sexual abuse and child abuse cases, as well as shaken baby incidents.

Internet Crimes Against Children

Because of his recognized expertise in these fields, Officer Adrian was sought out by members of the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) task force to become a member of this extraordinary team. Computer-related crimes – especially those dealing with child pornography and exploitation – requires extensive training and tremendous dedication. Officer Adrian has taken this challenge and is now recognized as an expert in this emerging field and can serve as a resource to Burnsville officers and other jurisdictions for advice and suggestions on how to resolve these difficult crimes.

Predatory Offender Registration
Additionally, Officer Adrian was selected to manage and implement Burnsville’s Predatory Offender Registration (POR) initiative, organizing “POR sweeps” to verify registration requirements as set forth by the Courts for sexual offenders who reside in our community and to update photographs of the offenders.

Officer Adrian’s Accomplishments
Equally impressive are the accomplishments Officer Adrian has achieved throughout his policing career. Adrian was presented three Police Department Distinguished Service Awards for his involvement in a 1994 homicide investigation, the foot pursuit and arrest of a suspect for attempted murder in 1995, and a 1996 confrontation and arrest of a suspect armed with several knives during a burglary/assault incident. He also received Meritorious Service Awards for his participation on the department’s Domestic Abuse Response Team and the Squad Car Committee.
