1: Police Property/Evidence Processing
Improvement No. 1:
Redesign and Expansion of Police Department Property and Evidence Storage and Evidence Processing Space

When Burnsville's City Hall/Police Department building was originally designed in the mid-1980s, the State of Minnesota processed evidence for the City. Thus, design and construction specifically for evidence processing was not necessary.

However, the State has since evidence processing a responsibility of local police departments. This means the department needs to stock supplies, house equipment and have space for processing.

In addition, technology has changed and equipment needs have evolved over time. Expansion and redesign of this secured space, both within the department’s walls and existing evidence garage bays, will accommodate new technology and equipment needs, improve workflow and accommodate future anticipated evidence processing and storage-related needs. Relocating the evidence vehicles closer to the evidence unit also improves operational efficiency.

This addresses:
  • Public Safety
  • Operational Efficiency
