Technical Rescue Team

Background and Purpose

The Burnsville Fire Department's Technical Rescue Team was organized in 1999. The purpose is to provide the community with highly trained personnel to respond to special rescue incidents.

The Technical Rescue Team is capable of responding to specialty type rescues throughout the city, as well as in our neighboring communities.

Program Training

While the entire department receives technical rescue training, a core group of firefighter/paramedics representing each shift are selected to receive advanced training in the rescue specialties such as:

  • High and low angle rescue
  • Confined space rescue
  • Water and ice rescue
  • Vehicle and machinery rescue
  • Trench rescue
Training Schedule

The team members train together an average of once a month throughout the year for a total of 100 hours. Team members also conduct shift training to keep other firefighter/paramedics proficient in their roles in regards to technical rescue incidents

Analysis of Potential Hazards

Team members also conduct surveys of different businesses/industries along with the landscape of the city to determine technical rescue target hazards.
