These impressive accolades, along with the respect he receives from his peers, have set Hasselman apart as Burnsville’s 2013 Officer of the Year.

Hasselman began his tenure with Burnsville as a patrol officer in 2006. In 2011, he joined the K-9 Unit with his partner Razor. Together, the pair has been a valued asset to the Burnsville Police Department and surrounding agencies.
Working together, Hasselman and Razor have helped apprehend multiple robbery and domestic violence suspects – and track down evidence related to a homicide. In 2013, the duo took on more than 75 cases, and attended numerous community functions and more than 20 public demonstrations.

Officer Hasselman has taken great pride in being a K-9 handler, and has dedicated thousands of training hours with Razor to become an expert in the field. In 2013, Hasselman and Razor completed Police Dog 1 certification and received second place at the Minnesota Regionals, qualifying them for national trials. At nationals, the two received a National Certification of Excellence – the highest honors a K-9 team can receive.

After returning from the national competition, Razor was diagnosed with severe disc damage, ending his career far too early. While dealing with this devastating injury to his partner, Officer Hasselman’s diligence has not wavered.
Officer Hasselman’s devotion to law enforcement and the community he serves truly keep well with the Burnsville Police Department’s high standards and core values of Honor, Integrity, Courage, Excellence and Knowledge. For these reasons, the department is proud to announce Officer Brian J. Hasselman as Burnsville’s 2013 Police Officer of the Year.
