Non-commercial door-to-door advocates do not need to register with police; however, they must provide the City with a list of the full names and birth dates of individuals going door-to-door -- and wear or display identification at all times.

  • All solicitors, peddlers and transient merchants must wear City-issued identification showing their name and the business/organization name. Identification must be visible at all times.
  • Mobile vendors must display their license on the vehicle, trailer or cart in a manner that is visible to the purchasing public.

Practices Prohibited

  • Solicitors and peddlers can only approach residences between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m (or a half hour after sundown, whichever comes sooner).
  • Solicitors and peddlers cannot legally enter onto any premises where a sign has been posted to prohibit soliciting and peddling. Click here to download a "Peddlers and Solicitors Prohibited" sign.

Residents who view suspicious activities should call 9-1-1 for a response from the Burnsville Police Department. Contact the Burnsville Police Department at 952-895-4600 to register.
