Solicitors and Peddlers
ID Required for Solicitors and Peddlers
A knock on the door may mean a visit from a person trying to sell items or solicit a donation from an organization. The City of Burnsville has several requirements for solicitors and peddlers that must be met in order to legally operate in the city.
REGISTRATION
• All solicitors and peddlers must register with the police department before conducting any activities.
• Every solicitor and peddler must register regardless of whether or not a fellow employee or supervisor has already registered.
IDENTIFICATION
• All solicitors and peddlers must wear some type of identification showing their name and the business/organization for which they are soliciting or peddling.
• Identification must be visible.
PRACTICES PROHIBITED
• Solicitors and peddlers can only enter onto residential premises between the hours of 9 a.m. and 8 p.m (or a half hour after sundown, whichever comes sooner).
• Solicitors and peddlers cannot legally enter onto any premises where a sign has been posted to prohibit soliciting and peddling.
EXCEPTIONS
• Religious and charitable organizations do not need to register with the police department, however, must wear identification that is visible.
Residents who view suspicious activities should call 911 for a response from the Burnsville Police Department.
