Burnsville Parkway Reconstruction

Construction on Burnsville Parkway from Aldrich Avenue to Parkwood Drive will take place between May and September 2010.

8/20 Update
Burnsville Parkway is open to two lanes in each direction for the entire project length from Parkwood Drive to Aldrich Avenue. The exception to this is the intersection of Nicollet Avenue where traffic is restricted to one lane in each direction to prepare for watermain work in the intersection starting this Friday night at 9:00 pm. The intersection will be closed during this period and will be open by 5:00 am the next Monday morning. Following this weekend, the intersection will be concrete paved in quarters (one quarter a week). The intersection will be open to one lane of traffic through the intersection during this time period. The remainder of the roadway will be open to two lanes in each direction. Once the concrete pavement is completed (late September), the final lift of asphalt pavement and striping will occur.

8/11 Update

The contractor opened Burnsville Parkway to four lane traffic on Saturday, August 7th.  Work is still scheduled for late August in the Burnsville Parkway/Nicollet Avenue intersection requiring a complete closure of the intersection the night of Friday, August 27.  The roadway will then be one lane in each direction in the intersection for concrete pavement construction which should run through late September.  Burnsville Parkway and Nicollet Avenue, except for the area immediately adjacent to Nicollet Avenue, will be in a four lane condition during the concrete paving.  Final lift asphalt pavement (and completion of the project) will then be completed over the entire job at the end of September or early October.

Business Signage:
To improve business access and activity, on June 22 the City Council approved suspension of code enforcement of business signage from Aldrich Avenue to Nicollet Avenue for affected businesses on Burnsville Parkway. Any sign placed must not affect the public safety and must not be in the way of construction activities. This suspension will be in place until final lift paving and striping has been completed which is expected in mid to late September. Work is expected to be completed on the project except for work in and adjacent to Nicollet Avenue by mid to late August.

Project:
The City of Burnsville has awarded a contract to Palda and Sons, Inc. out of St. Paul to reconstruct Burnsville Parkway during the summer of 2010. The pavement removals are scheduled to begin on May 17, 2010. The contractor will be working on the southerly lanes first pushing all traffic to the northerly lanes. This will result in traffic flows having only one lane in each direction. Local business and intersection access will remain open. The intersection with Nicollet Avenue will be controlled by a temporary signal system. The intersection with Pleasant Avenue will not be signalized during the project.

The Nicollet Avenue/Burnsville Parkway intersection is schedule to be closed entirely over the Memorial Day weekend starting the evening of Friday, May 28. The Contractor will be providing the detour utilizing 130th Street, Parkwood Drive, Travelers Trail and Pillsbury Drive as routes around the intersection.

Closure of the on and off ramps from I-35W are also expected during the project. Advanced notice will be provided regarding these closures.
