Permits & Licenses

In order to comply with the most recent recommendations about social distancing we have decided to temporarily close all City facilities to the public (including City Hall).

Building inspections within occupied residences are suspended. Exterior inspections will continue for exterior work. This will continue until June 30, and is subject to change. City staff will work with residents on a case-by-case basis for interior inspections, with a focus on upholding the CDC guidelines.

Commercial Inspections
Commercial inspections will continue as normal until further notice and follow CDC guidelines for social distancing.

We know that there will likely continue to be changes as the situation changes and we will continue to communicate with you as quickly as possible. For the most up-to-date information regarding the City’s response to COVID-19 please visit

Getting a Permit or License

Permits and licenses are needed to ensure that safety standards are met. Applications should be submitted well in advance of the scheduled project. This will allow time for City staff to offer assistance and have everything issued in a timely manner.

Various inspections are required for all building permits. An orange "inspection record card" will be issued to identify the inspections that are required for each project. The card must stay on the site until a final inspection has been completed. City inspectors will inspect a project several times during the course of construction. To schedule an inspection contact the Building Inspections Department between the hours of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at 952-895-4444.
