Home Addition Rebate
Burnsville Building Inspections offers an incentive program for single family residential property owners that make a substantial investment to their home. The program provides a full rebate of the building and plan review fees for home addition projects that increase the value of the home.
All fees must be paid up front. Once the addition has passed its final inspection, a check and "Thank You" letter will be issued to the homeowner. No permit will be issued unless the property taxes and other public obligations such as utilities are current.
The rebate applies to single-family dwellings, two-family dwellings and townhouses owned by individuals and owner occupied. The rebate is for projects that increase the square footage of the livable area of the home such as room additions and second-story additions. It is not for decks, garages, accessory structures, interior projects, or cantilevers. The rebate may also be issued for projects that entail demolition of a home and construction of a new home. In this case, the demo permit may also be rebated.
Community Education Credit
Burnsville Building Inspections offers a credit on any residential building permit fee with a receipt from a related Community Education class. The Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District (ISD 191) Community Education office offers a variety of home improvement classes four times each year on topics such as drywall, decking, electrical and plumbing – all taught by trained professionals – and usually lasting less than three hours each.
Residents interested in receiving a credit should sign up and pay for an approved Community Education Course. Once complete, you will be presented with a receipt or certificate of completion that can be brought in or emailed to City Hall along with a related building permit application. The cost of the course will be subtracted from the cost of the building permit at the time of purchase.
